Day 1: Intro to Course and Camera Basics

For the first day of this J-Term, we began the morning by being given an intro to the course as well as a presentation on how we should use critical thinking while critiquing photographs and how to do so. In the afternoon, we had a guest speaker, Laura Napier, go over ways to adjust many different functions on our cameras to get a desired image. We then went outside to practice these techniques with our cameras ourselves. Ms. Napier worked with each of us individually to ensure that we all felt comfortable using the techniques. This was really helpful for me because I was able to learn more in-depth about certain things I already knew and also learn completely new concepts. After today, we all felt much more comfortable using our cameras and knowing how to manipulate the settings depending on the picture we are trying to take. Exhibition Pieces and Visiting The MFAH

24 January 2018 Today we spent time in the morning creating the final presentation for this J-term, which will be shown to the rest of the community next Friday.  In addition to this, we have been working on compiling and editing footage from our trip to Austin, Texas to create a video which will be shown during our exhibition. Also, we worked on finalizing our pieces for the Art of Photography exhibition, by selecting photos which relate to each other, editing photos so that each collection maintains the same style, creating labels for them, and writing artists statements for each collection. In the afternoon, we spent time visiting the Museum of Fine Arts Houston to get a clearer idea of how a photography gallery is usually displayed. This way, we can feel more confident when determining how our exhibitions will be set up. Day 10: Prep For Last Week

By Jadyn Cleary Today we began our morning by doing a couple of photography exercises. One of the exercises was to pick an object and carry it to different locations to photograph. The other was to draw two photography techniques or subjects from a bowl then try to take a picture incorporating them. Day 11: Prep continuation and Gallery Visits

January 23, 2019 By Catherine Hudson The entirety of this morning was also spent working on personal projects, our J-term presentation, the exhibition and any other photography related tasks that needed to be completed.  In the afternoon we visited some galleries along Richmond Avenue and Kirby Drive. While we were there we gained inspiration on how to display and exhibit art. To conclude the day we discussed what we liked or didn't like about the presentations and how we would like to present our own photographs.
