Day 6: Pets and Portraits

Today we began our day with discussing photos that we had taken previously with one another, critiquing them and then working on our personal projects. After lunch we had a speaker, Jamie Rivers, come in to talk to us about portraits, I learned about how leading lines can be used well in portraits and how to do that.















We learned a lot during this time on how to take better portraits, we then moved on to practicing what we had learned on each other, and then coming back together to discuss the portraits that we took.















 We closed off the day with many of us bringing our pets and going to Bell Park and taking pictures of them there, this proved to be a challenge as animals don't often decide to pose helpfully for pictures, as people do. This also caused us to have to increase our shutter speed as it was sometimes hard to make the animals stay still.

Day 3: Long Exposure and "Real to Fake and Fake to Real"

By Anna Theriot During the third day of the photography J-Term, we did "real vs fake" photos and long exposure photography. In the morning we focused on an challenge/competition style exercise where we had to take something that was fake- like a plastic shark- and make it look real. For the flip side we had to take something real and make it look fake. During the afternoon, we did long exposure photography. One group consisting of Jadyn, Brandon, and Arwa went into the big bathroom with the shower to take photos. Another group consisting of Abby, Anna S, and Jack went into the Tinker Lab closet to photograph and my group which consisted of Callista, Cassandra, Catherine, and I went into the science lab closet to take photos.  During the last few minutes of the day, we spent some time outside taking photos using long exposure. And just to show our happiness and how much fun we are having in our J-Term:

Austin Adventure Begins......

Cassandra Wilson January 16, 2019 Today we began our adventure to Austin. When we first arrived there, we settled in our house, and traveled to downtown Austin for lunch at Hat Creek, which served burgers.  After lunch, we explored the botanical gardens where we captured many pictures of nature. Although it was a lightly raining, the mild lighting was perfect for taking close up shots of flowers and other plants. Some of these plants were even more enhanced by the rain, and others had many beautiful water drops attached to them. Also, we were able to experiment with the long exposure settings on our cameras by photographing waterfalls. Following this, we walked downtown to take photos of the city where we found many interesting architectural structures and brightly colored murals. Austin Trip Day 2

By Catherine Hudson On our second day in Austin, we woke up around 8.00 and cooked ourselves a breakfast of pancakes, eggs, and bacon. We also made packed lunches for the road.  We then drove to the Hamilton Pool where we spent the next few hours. The waterfall and streams there gave us some more opportunities to take pictures with the long exposure setting. The distinct teal color of the water also provided some cool shots. While we were there, some of us enjoyed swimming despite the cold water and, we later had a nice picnic in the sun.  After the Hamilton pool we then drove all the way to Enchanted Rock, unfortunately, only to discover that it was closed for hunting this week. This then led to an impromptu trip to Fredericksburg. There, we walked around and had fun going into some of the old local stores.  In the evening, we headed back towards Austin and had dinner all together at Red's Porch.
